My late wife and I built Havencrest Castle as a home for our loving and creative life. I've lived here 50 years now -- 20 of them without her. We thought of our home as our 'temple of love and art.' We didn't have children, so our home became "our baby" in a sense. As a professional artist, it was natural for me to show my devotion to my wife with sculptures and many paintings of her. One caryatid sculpture of her supports an archway in the rococo library. Another series in the ballroom has a direct casting of her elegant hand to hold the chandeliers. Since our home was built on a love story, some people call Havencrest Castle, the 'Taj Mahal of Illinois.' Our motto from our first year of marriage, "Semper Nos," (Always Us) can be found throughout our home in architecture, paintings, Adrianne's stained glass, and even on our dinnerware. To us that motto meant that love and marriage are eternal -- not just for a lifetime. My channel is about moving forward after great loss, and the journey of living a productive, and happy life, moving through the years that remain here in our beloved hilltop home.
